Protection and Safety for you and your children
Your protection and safety are of paramount concern, whether it be freedom from physical violence, or emotional abuse or power imbalance. Telephone or email us if you have any concerns.
Warning
Mediation is a voluntary process. It may well not be appropriate in situations of domestic violence or other abuse. That is why we screen carefully for violence before commencing mediation. However, there are often circumstances where mediation can assist even where there has been violence or abuse; we can explore this with you, confidentially and on your own, in an initial free assessment. Mediation can aid dialogue even where violence has taken place, but only when issues of protection and safety have been addressed first.
Mediation, violence and safety We adopt the policies of the UK College of Family Mediators, the Legal Services Commission, and the Law Society regarding the safety of adults in mediation. Those policies are readily available on their websites.

Protecting your Children The safety of children is a first priority in mediation, as in any family work. In exceptional circumstances, we may have to breach confidentiality if a child is at risk. Again, we adopt the policies of our governing bodies in this respect. The best way to protect children from the worst effects of family breakdown is to work together to meet their needs. Mediation provides a forum for this. Children also need access to resources and information, and need to know where to get help. Click here for some useful resources and links.
